I had to work today, so when I was leaving my house, the weather wasn't so bad, and I thought that the snow storm wouldn't start until the evening. How I was so wrong. By noon, the snow storm started and it didn't look like it was going to die down any time soon. I was working in drive through, so I had about a huge sweater and my jacket on, but that didn't help any bit. The snow got into the resteraunt and I still managed to freeze during my shift. I was tempted to start a fire to warm myself up, but I knew better, and I didn't want to danger anyone's life. So that was a no-no.
I had thought that when in a snow storm, any store that is open is likely not to have that many customers. Once again how I was so wrong. Perhaps it had to do with the hockey game playing at the Bell Centre. We have plasma televisions at work and the managers put the hockey game on, and if it isn't hockey it's the news.
Another thing that wasn't on a lighter note was that we [the employees] were wearing Habs jerseys, and I have to say that I'm not a huge fan of hockey, but my team is the Montreal Canadiens, regardless if they are winning or losing, they are my team. Which brings me to my topic. As I was working on drive through, there were people commenting on my jersey, so my best smile goes out to them, and then there was this one customer that told me that the Montreal Canadiens were losing. I knew that, in fact, Montreal knew that. I told him that even if they were losing, they were still my team. He gave me one of those looks that tells someone that if a team is loosing, move onto the next one. The one thing that I loath with some people when it comes to sports is that once a team starts losing, they lose interest in them. That's what I like to call being 'two-faced'.
On a lighter note, there was a kid that came up to the counter and one of the managers took his order. Danny, the manager, asked the kid what was 8 x 2, the the kid said, and I died laughing at this:
"I'm not in my math mode."
Danny then asked him:
"What's 8 + 8 then?"
"I'm not in my math mode."
Kids say the darnest thing.
Going back to the impending snow storm, which is still raging on outside as I type, when I was walking home, I nearly got swiped by two cars. The ground was covered in so much snow that I couldn't hear them coming, the sidewalks were covered in so much snow that I had no choice but to walk on the road. There was a mix of freezing rain, hail and snow, all of which cut my face as I made my way home. The roads were so slippery that I slipped a few times, but it was slightly better than walking on the sidewalks. And there was so much snow that I had a very hard time seeing what was ahead of me and behind me, so I couldn't tell if there was any cars or trucks coming my way or going the opposite direction.
For anyone who lives in Canada, or in Montreal, how are you doing there?
